He has received awards for teaching and mentoring students. Dr. Kaufui Vincent Wong has served on the UM Graduate Council for 3 terms, and elected Faculty Senator for one. He is active in the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and has held many leadership positions, including Chair of the Advanced Energy Systems Division, and Deputy Group Leader of the Energy Group. He is a life Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aerospace and Astronautics. He is the 2015 ASME Dixy Lee Ray Award recipient, and the 2016 Engineers’ Council Award for the Distinguished Engineering Educator. Hamid Bahai received his PhD degree in 1993 in Computational Mechanics from Queen Mary College, University of London. Between 1993 and 1995 he worked as a Senior Research Engineer at T&N Technology where he was involved in research and development work on a number of projects for the automotive and aerospace industries. This was followed by a period at Halliburton Inc during which time he carried out design and analysis of a number of major offshore structures. In 1996 he moved to the aerospace industry by joining Matra Marconi Space where, as a principal engineer, he played a leading role in conducting design, mathematical modelling and computational analysis of Euro3000 space craft structures and Arian5 launcher / spacecraft adapter. He was made a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in 1996. In 1998 he returned to academia and joined Brunel University as a lecturer. He became a senior lecturer in 2004, a reader in 2005 and a Professor of Computational Mechanics in 2009. Dr. Hyung-Sup Jung received the B.S. in geology in 1996, the M.S. degree in geophysics in 1998 and the Ph.D. degree in remote sensing in 2007 from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. He is currently a Department Head and an Associate Professor with the Department of Geoinfomatics at the University of Seoul. His primary research interests cover the development of algorithms related to 1) synthetic aperture radar (SAR), SAR interferometry (InSAR), multiple-aperture InSAR (MAI) and multi-temporal InSAR (MTInSAR), 2) automated geometric correction of multi-sensor images, and 3) multi-sensor image processing and fusion, thermal remote sensing and multi-temporal optical and thermal sensing. He has been developing algorithms for remote sensing applications related to 1) 3D deformation mapping by combining MAI and InSAR, 2) 2D surface velocity estimation by combining MAI and along-track interferometry (ATI), 3) MAI-based ionospheric correction of radar interferograms, 4) multi-sensor fusion by the integration of optic and SAR, SAR and thermal and optic and thermal images, 5) automated geometric correction for optic and SAR images, and 6) Earth's surface variation monitoring such as urban subsidence monitoring, glacier monitoring, volcano monitoring, deforestation monitoring, forest mapping, forest fire mapping and snow depth estimation.

He received his Ph.D. from University of Connecticut in 2005, M.S. from State University of New York at Binghamton, and B.S. from Peking University. His research focuses on advanced mechanics and physics in condensed matter using multiscale, first-principles, molecular dynamics, and finite-element modeling and simulations. He is the main developer of the QCDFT (Quasi-Continuum Density Functional Theory) which allows standard density functional theory calculations of solids at micron scales and beyond. The QCDFT method has been used in alloying, plasticity, and fracture mechanics of solids. He also studied the electronic, thermal, thermoelectric, and nonlinear mechanical properties of low-dimensional materials, nanomaterials, electronic materials, and energetic materials. Professor Tian’s current research interests include the combustion chemistry with respect to the following topics: 1) Combustion kinetics, covering the laminar flames, low-temperature oxidation, model establishment and simulation of aviation fuels; 2) In-situ combustion diagnostics, namely conventional and novel diagnostic techniques such as MBMS, DRIFTS and other spectroscopies for the identification of active intermediates and monitoring related parameters; 3) Catalytic combustion, containing the facile syntheses of efficient catalysts and their wide applications.
