Dr. Qing Peng is a postdoctoral research associate in Department of Mechanical, Aerospace & Nuclear Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an adjunct professor of Wuhan University. He received his Ph.D. from University of Connecticut in 2005, M.S. from State University of New York at Binghamton, and B.S. from Peking University. His research focuses on advanced mechanics and physics in condensed matter using multiscale, first-principles, molecular dynamics, and finite-element modeling and simulations. He is the main developer of the QCDFT (Quasi-Continuum Density Functional Theory) which allows standard density functional theory calculations of solids at micron scales and beyond. The QCDFT method has been used in alloying, plasticity, and fracture mechanics of solids. He also studied the electronic, thermal, thermoelectric, and nonlinear mechanical properties of low-dimensional materials, nanomaterials, electronic materials, and energetic materials. In addition, he studied the radiation hardness in 2D materials, radiation damage in HCP metals, and pyroelectricity in some ferroelectrics. Dr. Peng has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal papers with H-index of 17. Dr. Peng serves as an Editorial board member for Scientific Reports.
