Dr. Jonathan Mark Fitzsimmons is currently a medical scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory, where he developed production scale separations for Ge-68, Zn-65 and Be-7, performs instrumental validations and QC testing of isotope products and is part of the TriLab team to develop Ac-225 on a production scale. He completed his masters from Johns Hopkins University in 2000 under a National Cancer Institute training grant, and received his PhD in radiochemistry in 2005 from University of Missouri-Columbia. His dissertation research covered small molecules synthesis of compounds to target the sigma receptor(s), organometallics of metal tricarbonyls and evaluation of in vivo/vitro stability of novel chelators for lanthanides. He performed postdoctoral studies at Los Alamos National Laboratory on targeted polymers to retain Actinium-225, developed a Ga-68 generator, and received a LANL inventor award. He performed research on decorporation agents at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently serving on an expert panel for the US Pharmacopeia on PET drugs, and has reviewed grant proposals for the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. His research interest include PI on a funded proposal to evaluate non-conventional materials for applications in isotope separations and medical isotope generators. He is interested in developing new isotopes, chelating agents and labeling approaches for medical applications, MRI and decorporation agents.
