Prof. Bargar has received several awards for his contributions to science and robotics, as well as medicine. He received the honor of having the surgical robot invented by him, accepted into the National Archives at the Smithsonian Museum for being the first robotic device ever to be used in human surgery. Prof. Bargar's research interests include specializing in hip and knee replacement.

His research activities concern Human motion analysis and modeling, Computer Vision, Knowledge Representation, Computer Assisted and Robotics Surgery, Medical Signal/Image Processing and Analysis. Dr. Cerveri has recently extended his research interest to the field of oncology where he is investigating new modeling approaches to predict tumor regression response to radiation and chemo-therapy in collaboration with European Institute of Oncology.
