Prof. William L Bargar is a Professor of University of California-Davis School of Medicine, Sacramento. He is also an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Consultant, specialized in Hip and Knee Replacement, USA. Prof. Bargar received his MD from Medical School Ohio State University. He was a pioneer in the development of custom-made implants and computer-assisted navigation. Prof. Bargar's greatest contribution was the development of the first active surgical robot, which is now used around the world. His innovation helped to spawn the entire field of surgical robotics. Prof. Bargar has received several awards for his contributions to science and robotics, as well as medicine. He received the honor of having the surgical robot invented by him, accepted into the National Archives at the Smithsonian Museum for being the first robotic device ever to be used in human surgery. Prof. Bargar's research interests include specializing in hip and knee replacement.
