Dr. Michael Thomas Aide research interests include Soil: Research interests center on the chemical behavior of transition metals in soil, especially metal-oxide adsorption mechanisms. A second area of interest involves clay mineralogy and soil formation (genesis). Both areas require continuing interest in analytical instrumentation, especially NMR, HPLC, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, MS-ICP, INAA, and EXAFS. Agronomy: Research interests involve the growth and development of grain crops in integrated systems involving soil fertility and water management of particular interest is the influence of soil chemistry on rice physiology. Mathematics: Interests involve discovering analytical and numerical solutions for differential equations having applications to soil science.

His research interests are related to sustainable water and soil management in the agroecosystem, and particularly to anthropogenic pressures of agricultural resources from trace metals contamination and salinization processes.
