He received his BS in Biomedical Science and MS in Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M in 1983 and 1985, respectively. In 1990, he received his PhD in Physiology form Colorado State University in the Animal Reproduction Laboratory under Gordon Niswinder and Richard Bowen. Dr. Fontenot spent his career in industry working predominantly on reproductive issues, both male and female and a Molecular Biologist and Endocrinologist. He had cloned genes for contraceptive development and analyzed male knockout lines to identify gene affecting male infertility. Also, he was involved in identifying genes controlling Diabetes and obesity. He is currently working on the drug approval process for drugs that will affect male hypogonadism and female uterine fibroids.

Prof. Vijai K S Shukla is director of International Food Science Centre A/S, Denmark and Adjunct Professor in Department of Food Science & Nutrition at University of Minnesota and University of Florida, USA. He has been active in food science research since 1969 and has published numerous papers and has authored several books. His research interests have ranged from physical phenomena to mechanisms of autoxidation, isolation of lipids, spectral phenomena related to lipids, modern analytical methodology, and involvement of essential fatty acids in health and diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis and Batten's Syndrome. Dr. Shukla has been working in the area of application of natural lipids such as exotic butters for cosmetic formulations. He has designed a specific method for internally stabilization of exotic lipids through providing enhanced shelf-life of the final product. He has authored several papers related to these topics.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among American women. Breast cancer risk is increased by both obesity and alcohol consumption. However, the mechanism of how these factors affect breast cancer development is not fully known. Prof. Nunez's laboratory focuses on investigating how these risk factors influence breast cancer development with the ultimate goal of finding targets to prevent the effects of alcohol and obesity on breast cancer.
