Insights of Anthropology

Dr. James C Chatters is an archaeologist and paleontologist who works in the United States and Mexico. He is consultant to Direct AMS, a commercial radiocarbon dating laboratory in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Chatters attended Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology. He then enrolled in the University of Washington in Seattle, where he continued his study of Anthropology, earning his Master's degree and Ph.D in 1975 and 1982, respectively. He has conducted extensive research in hunter-gather prehistory in the North American Northwest, Paleoanthropology of the earliest Americans, Theory of Cultural Macroevolution, late Quaternary palynology and mammalian paleontology. He was personally involved in recovery and first studies of 10 of the continent’s 50 oldest skeletons, and is best known for his discovery of Kennewick Man, one of the most complete early human skeletons in North America.

Dr. Douglas R White is Emeritus Professor in Department of Anthropology at Institute of Mathematical Behavioral Science, United States of America. He also Worked as Associate Professor (1976-1979) in Comparative Culture and Social Sciences at UC Irvine and as Assistant/Associate Professor (1969-74/1974-76) in Department of Anthropology at University of Pittsburgh. He founded the World Cultures electronic journal in 1985 as part of the movement for open access scientific data and publication and founded the open access and peer reviewed Structure and Dynamics electronic journal in 2005. Dr. White is a recipient of the U.S. Distinguished Scientist Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the "Best Paper in Mathematical Sociology of 2004" Award of the American Sociological Association (2004), and the 2007 "Viviana Zelizer Distinguished Scholarship Award" for the outstanding article published in the field of economic sociology in the previous two years. Dr. White's research interests includes Social & Cultural Anthropology, Social Networks, Cross-Cultural Research.

Dr. Carol Camp Yeakey holds faculty appointments as Professor of Arts & Sciences and the Founding Director of the interdisciplinary program in Urban Studies and its Center on Urban Research and Public Policy at Washington University in St. Louis. She received her Ph.D. from Northwestern University in Social Policy. Among her research awards and fellowships, she has been a Rockefeller Fellow and a Bush Fellow at the Bush Center for Child Development and Social Policy in the Department of Psychology at Yale University; a Ford Fellow of the National Academy of Education and a Dartmouth Fellow at the Center for the Study of Comparative Politics and Inter-group Relations in the Department of Sociology at Dartmouth College. Dr. Yeakey has served as Senior Research Scientist at: the Kellogg Foundation; the Children’s Defense Fund, the College Board, the Josiah Macy Foundation and the Educational Testing Service among others. Dr. Yeakey's primary area of research is social welfare policy as said policy pertains to marginalized children, young adults and families and the neighborhood contexts in which they live. Her research examine the nexus between the mal/distribution of human groups in dense urban spaces with reference to material resources and the consequential social, political, economic and cultural patterns which evolve as a result of the sufficiency or insufficiency of those resources.

Dr. Ernest Quimby is Professor in Department of Sociology and Criminology at Howard University, United States of America. He worked as Director for Community Technical Assistance Project (CTAP) of community-based participatory action research and service learning. Dr. Quimby worked as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Howard University. Dr. Quimby's research interests includes Social equity especially related to marginalized peoples, Mental health treatment and services as they are affected by social, cultural, racial and ethnic factors, Qualitative methodologies for identifying and resolving social problems, Restorative justice theory and practices, Gentrification and equitable community development, Environmental factors affecting primary health and wellness, Substance use and abuse, Criminal and juvenile justice.

Dr. Alan McGowan, former Associate Professor of Integrated Science at Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, served as chair of the Science, Technology and Society program for four years, and following that, was the chair of the Environmental Studies Program for three. He is now a lecturer in the program. Prior to coming to The New School, he founded and was President of the Gene Media Forum, a non-profit organization that focused on providing information on the social, ethical and scientific aspects of the genetic revolution to journalists. Previously, he was for twenty years the president of the Scientists’ Institute for Public Information, a major bridge between the scientific community and the media.He is chair emeritus of Student Pugwash USA, an organization devoted to the consideration of ethical issues in scientific and technical research. He was a pioneer in environmental education, sharing leadership of an EE program in the late 1960s. He has written extensively on science policy and public understanding of science issues. Dr. McGowan's research interests focus on the intersection between science and technology and social issues, including ethics, politics, and the economy.

Jacques Demongeot is currently Professor Emeritus at Universite Grenoble Alpes and Honorary Member of The Institut Universitaire de France (chair of Biomathematics). He was Professor of Public Health and Biomathematics (1984-2016) at the University Joseph Fourier (Grenoble, France) and founding Director of the CNRS Laboratory TIMC-IMAG (1982-2011) at the University Hospital of Grenoble (CHUG). Dr. Demongeot is Foreign Member of the Academy of Sciences of Chile (2009) and Fellow of IAMBE, The International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering (2014). He is working now on social networks involved in obesity, human genetics and bio-systems at the origin of life. Dr. Demongeot's research interests includes Medical Imaging, Bio-Informatics, Bio-Modelling, Biological Complexity, Systems Biology.

Dr. Joyce C White, PhD is an American archaeologist, an adjunct associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania, and executive director of the new Institute for Southeast Asian Archaeology. Her research primarily concerns decades-long multidisciplinary archaeological investigations in Thailand and Laos covering the prehistoric human occupation of the middle reaches of the Mekong River Basin. She is considered the world's leading expert on the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ban Chiang, Thailand, and directs an archaeological fieldwork program in the Luang Prabang Province of Laos. She has become a strong advocate of cultural heritage preservation and has served as an expert witness in an antiquities trafficking case for the U.S. Department of Justice. She received her MA and PhD in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania and holds the position of Consulting Scholar at the University's Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. While working on her dissertation, she lived in Thailand doing field work for 20 months from 1979 to 1981. Dr. White founded the Institute for Southeast Asian Archaeology (ISEAA) in October 2013 in order to build upon the decades-long archaeological research programs in Thailand and Laos undertaken by the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. David Fonseca is Associate Professor in Departments of Architecture, La Salle Campus Barcelona at Ramon Llull University (URL) with a Tenured Lecturer Certification by University Quality Agency of Catalonia, Spain. He holds a Telecommunications degree (URL), and Audiovisual Communication degree and Information and Knowledge Society Master (Open University of Catalonia, UOC). He worked as Lecturer in the Department of Architecture (URL) since 1997, he is working as a researcher in the Department of Architecture and Humanities of the same University (since 2005). Internationally certified by Autodesk, his activities deal with multimedia, architecture, usability studies, computer-mediated communication, and technology enhanced education as a member of GRETEL (Research Grup of Enhanced Technology in E-learning, URL).

Dr. Jose Antonio Lopez Saez is Tenured Scientist at Spanish National Research Council(CSIC) in Spain. He has done his Graduate in Biology, specialist in Botany, Phytochemistry and Palynology, from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 1989. Between 1998 to the present Dr. Saez worked as an archaeobotanist at the Laboratorio de Arqueobotanica at the CSIC (Madrid). He has also carried out various palaeoecological projects focusing on climatic change and cultural response. Dr. Saez's research interests includes Palaeopalynology and Archaeoopalynology (pollen, spores, non-pollen palynomorphs) from different periods (Palaeolithic to Middle Ages) and different sedimentary contexts (lakes, peat bogs, archaeological sites, palaeosoils, etc.), Prehistoric agriculture, with particular emphasis on the origins and expansion of agriculture in the Mediterranean and Mesoamerica, High-mountain environments during the Holocene.
