Aspects of Nanotechnology

Prof. Michael Saul Isaacson is working as Professor Emeritus and Director of the Center for Sustainable Energy and Power Engineering in the Baskin School of Engineering, University of California, USA. Prof. Isaacson has a B.S in Engineering Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an M.S and Ph.D in physics from the University of Chicago. He received several Awards that include Hertz Foundation Fellowship, a Sloan Foundation Faculty Fellowship, the Burton Medal from the Microscopy Society of America, an Alexander von Humboldt Senior Scientist Research Award, the Rank Prize in Optoelectronics and the Distinguished Scientist (Physical Sciences) Award from the Microscopy Society of America. Prof. Isaacson has several patents and has been a consultant to several industrial, academic and governmental organizations. Prof. Isaacson has published more than 160 articles and book chapters dealing with field emission, scanning and scanning transmission electron microscopy, etc.

Prof.Ali Mansoori is Professor of BioEngineering, Chemical Engineering and Physics, University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. He worked as Professor at UIC. Prof. Mansoori received his PhD from University of Oklahoma. He completed his Post Doctoral Fellow at Rice University. Prof. Mansoori worked as Visiting Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. Prof. Mansoori fields of research include nanotechnology, nano thermodynamics, molecular based study of disease diagnostic methods and therapeutic agents, molecular based study of arterial blockage/fouling in petroleum and natural gas industries, nanobiostructures design, phase transitions, density functional theory, molecular dynamics simulations, and statistical mechanics. He has published extensively in the above mentioned fields of research with over 550 publications and ten books including, the best-seller book entitled "PRINCIPLES OF NANOTECHNOLOGY - Molecular Based Study of Condensed Matter in Small Systems".

Prof. Kau Fui Vincent Wong is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at University of Miami's Mechanical Engineering. He worked as Associate Director at the Center for Solid & Hazardous Waste Management, USA. Prof. Wong received his Ph.D in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in the year 1977 and he has done his MS in Mechanical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in the year 1975. He was honored with 2016 Engineers 'Council Distinguished Engineering Educator and received 2015 ASME Dixy Lee Ray Award and also received 2006 ASME Best Paper Award. In 1990 Prof. Wong was honored with ASME Curriculum Innovation Honorable Mention Award. Prof. Wong is Life Fellow of ASME and Life Associate Fellow of AIAA.

Dr. Volkmar Weissig is a Tenured Full Professor of Pharmacology and Chair for the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Co-Director of Nanomedicine Center of Excellence in Translational Cancer Research at Midwestern University Glendale, USA. He worked as an Interim chair for the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Midwestern University College of Pharmacy Glendale. Dr. Weissig received his Ph.D in 1981 and postdoctoral Sc.D degree in 1992, from Martin-Luther University, Germany. He received "Scientific Contribution Award" from the International Society for Antioxidants in Nutrition and Health. In 2014 he was elected as Inaugural President of the World Mitochondria Society. Dr. Weissig Research interests include Pharmaceutical nanotechnology; Targeted drug delivery; Mitochondria-targeted drug and DNA delivery; Pro-apoptotic based anticancer chemotherapy; Liposomes.

Prof. Steffen B Petersen is Professor for Biostructure and Protein Engineering in the Department of Health Science and Engineering. He is also working as Professor at Buffalo, USA. Prof. Petersen worked as Head of Institute of Biotechnology, Denmark. He received PhD from University of Copenhagen. Prof. Petersen's most significant contributions to science include Discovery of scale free organization of amino acid pairs in proteins, 3-Photon breakage of SS bonds in Protein and initial early development of MRI and development of Image processing software packages etc. His patents encompass Useful mutations of bacterial alkaline protease and MUTEREDE SUBTILISINGENER etc. Prof. Petersen served as a president for the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology and International Protein Engineering Centers.

Dr. Robert D Arnold serves as a Director of the Specialized Pharmaceutical and Experimental Center for Translational Research & Analysis and as an Associate Professor for the Department of Drug Discovery and Development. He worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences at The University of Georgia. Dr. Arnold received his PhD from the University of Buffalo. His research focus includes the development and utilization of nanomedicines and alternate dosing schedules to improve the treatment of cancers. Dr. Arnold is interested in developing composite nanomedicines to improve drug delivery to primary tumors and metastatic disease. His research is supported by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering and the National Cancer Institute at the NIH and a variety of private and public institutions.

Prof. Moustapha Hassan serves as a Director of Preclinical Laboratory, the preclinical research facility at Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, Sweden, as well as Professor of Transplantation Research at Karolinska Institutet Huddinge. He worked as Professor of Transplantation Research, The department of Laboratory Medicine, Sweden. Prof. Hassan received his PhD in 1987. He has two patents. His research focus has been on increasing treatment efficacy and reducing side effects for transplanted children, which resulted in several strategies to optimize treatment with busulfan/cyclophosphamide in stem cell transplantation. Prof. Hassan developed a liposomal formulation enabling intravenous administration which is currently undergoing clinical trials. His current research projects focus on personalizing treatment through genome analysis, nanomedicine and improvement in pre-transplant medicine.

Prof. Vijay K Arora is a Professor at Wilkes University. He worked as Professor at King Saud University, Riyadh. Prof. Arora received his MS and PhD from University of Colorado. He has received numerous awards which includes Brain Gain Fellow, 2007 Best International Journal Paper Award, IEEE-EDS Award for Valued Service and Contributions to Communication and Information Policy of the U.S. Government etc. Prof. Arora's research grants were supported from NSF, AFOSR, ONR, NBS, DOE, Japan Research and Development Corporation (JRDC). He chaired NanoTechMalaysia2010, NanoSingapore2006, and ASEE Mid-Atlantic Conference1996. Prof. Arora is on the Distinguished Lecturer Program of the IEEE Electron Devices Society and APS Forum on Industrial and Applied Physics. His research interests include nanoelectronics, engineering management and global educational paradigms.

Prof. Sun Ig Hong is working as Professor in the Department of Nanomaterials at Chungnam National University, South Korea. He worked as Visiting Professor in the Department of Biologic and Materials Science at University of Michigan, USA. He received his Ph.D degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. Prof. Hong Received a "Distinguished Professor Award" from Chungnam National University. He was awarded with "Hall of Honor" from American Biographical Institute. Prof. Hong has published more than 300 papers in scientific journals, and his research has received international attention. His research area includes Alloys and composites, Hybrid materials, Nanomaterials, Nuclear materials, Biomaterials and high entropy alloys.

Prof. Fei Gao is a Professor at the University of Michigan. He worked as Chief Scientist and Adjunct Professor of Washington State University. Prof. Gao received his PhD from The University of Liverpool, UK. He received numerous awards which include The Outstanding Research Award of Basic Energy Science and The Outstanding Performance Awards of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, USA. Presently His research focuses on numerous Research Grants and Proposals which include 'Fission Product Transport in TRISO Fuel', Computer Simulations of Radiation Damage on Pressure Vessel Materials etc. His research projects were funded by numerous grants like DOE, USA; Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, USA; BNFL Magnox Generation, UK; Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. Prof. Gao research interests focuses on Fundamental understanding of ion-solid interaction and radiation effects in ceramics and reactor materials, Multi-scale computer simulations of microstructure evolution of solids under irradiation employing various computational methods.

Prof. Subhash C Chauhan is a Professor in the College of Pharmacy and Cancer Research Center. He worked as an Associate Professor in Sanford School of Medicine, The University of South Dakota. Prof. Chauhan received his PhD in 1997. His current research projects were supported by NIH/NCI which includes MUC13 Mucin in Colorectal Cancer Health Disparity, Targeted Nanotherapy for Pancreatic Cancer etc. Prof. Chauhan succefully completed several NIH/NCRR, NCI/NIH, NIH, NCMHD supported research works. He holds two US patents under his name. Prof. Chauhan is a member of Grant Review Panel for numerous institutes which includes Texas Center for Health Disparities, Grant Reviewer NIH, US Civilian Research and Development Foundation etc. His research interests focus on Developing Molecular Markers for Early Cancer Diagnosis and Targeted Therapy for Cancer Treatment.

Prof. Mohamed Abou El-Fetouh Barakat is a Professor of Environmental Sciences and Head of Graduate Students Affairs, KAU University. He worked as an Associate Professor at King Abdulaziz University. Prof. Barakat received his PhD from Inorganic Chemistry in 1995. He holds a patent under his name. Prof. Barakat received numerous awards which include Prize of excellence in Scientific Publications, Award of the Environmental Researches, Prize of excellence in Scientific Publications etc. He is also a member of Healthy Water Association, Member of New York Academy of Sciences, USA. Prof. Barakat research interests include, Nanomaterials for environmental applications including photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in industrial wastewater.

Dr. Robert W Lee serves as Vice President for Pharmaceutical Development Services, Bethlehem. He served as Vice President for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical product development, Novavax. Dr. Lee has served as Director for multiple therapeutic and diagnostic companies. He earned his B.Sc in Animal Sciences from Purdue University. He has done his MD from Georgetown University Medical School. He was trained in Pediatrics at The New York hospital, Cornell Medical Center and completed the OPM program at Harvard Business School. Dr. Lee was honored with SWPRD vision and Accomplishment Award. His research interests include development of Therapeutic drugs and diagnostic imaging agents, Nanocrystal technology, Lyotropic therapeutic's lyocell technology, and Novavax's micellar nanoparticle technology.

Dr. Vilas G Pol is an Associate Professor in School of Chemical Engineering and School of Materials Engineering, Purdue University. He worked as Materials Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), USA. Dr. Pol received his PhD from Center for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology in 2005. He developed numerous synthetic approaches for the fabrication of various functional electrode materials including anodes and cathodes of Li-ion batteries, K-ion, Na-ion and Li-S batteries. Dr. Pol's research works resulted in inventing 15 US patents/applications. He was honored with numerous awards which includes Seeds for Success, Excellence in Research Award, ACS Grand Prize winner etc. Dr. Pol research focuses is in the fields of energy storage, materials science, chemistry, engineering and electrochemistry.

Dr. Cesare Oliviero Rossi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry. He is also a Founder and president of the Spin Off Kimical SRL. Dr. Rossi worked as a Researcher for the Faculty of Science at University of Calabria. He received his PhD degree in Chemistry in 2002, from University of Calabria. Dr. Rossi was awarded the gold medal for contribution to the Road Science, 2013 Best Elsevier Poster Prize for "Novel formulations based on colloidal systems for transdermal drug delivery" etc. He has two patents which includes Antifumes for bitumen and Organosilane-based adhesion promoter. Dr. Rossi research activity includes Surfactant self-assembly, Phase diagram and Thermodynamics of Surfactants, Biodegradable surface-active molecules, Bitumen etc.

Dr. Sang H Choi is serving as a Senior Scientist at NASA Langley Research Center, leading a research team in advanced electronic and energetic materials. At NASA he pioneered smart optics, bionanobattery, quantum apertures, new bandgap engineering, etc. Dr. Choi also serves for NASA's Quantum Technology Blue Sky team, Risk-Taking Success Strategy Committee, LaRC Ideation-Innovation Blue Sky Team and NASA LaRC Honor Awards panel. He received his PhD from Oregon State University in 1980. Dr. Choi worked on numerous research projects such as satellite ERBE sensors, solar-pumped lasers, solar thermal rocket, nano-energetic propellants, micro-spectrometer, neural probe and nuclear thermionic avalanche cells. He received numerous Superior Accomplishment Awards at NASA which includes Nano50 Award, Nano50 Award in "Innovator" category, R&D100 Award, won 2010 SOLAR Metrology/Test Inline Solution Award. Dr. Choi areas of interest includes Bandgap engineering, Quantum energetics, Smart optical materials, Nano-neural probes.

Dr. Jiangtao Cheng is an Associate Professor in Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He worked as an Associate Professor at University of North Texas, USA. Dr. Cheng received his PhD from Purdue University, USA. He holds four Patents and Invention Disclosures under his name. Dr. Cheng was honored with numerous awards which includes Scholars Day Prize, Science and Technology Advancement Award, Outstanding Paper Award etc. His current research projects were funded by Virginia Tech - Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS), NSF CBET, NSF ECCS etc. Dr. Cheng served as the Principal Investigator of several research projects funded by DOE, NASA, DARPA and NSF respectively with a total funding exceeding $3.4 million. He has extensive experience in thermal-fluid sciences, renewable energy, micro/nano-fluidics, optofluidics, multiphase fluid flow, nano-fabrications and CFD numerical simulation.

Dr. Hongmei Luo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, NMSU. She worked as an Assistant Professor in the Chemical and Materials Engineering Department at New Mexico State University. Dr. Luo received her PhD from Tulane University, USA. She was honored with numerous awards which includes Robert L Westhafer Award, Nanoscience Research Leader Award, Bromilow Award etc. Dr. Luo is an active member of International Association of Advanced Materials(IAAM), The University Research Council (URC) etc. Her research focuses on epitaxial thin films and nanostructured materials for magnetic, superconducting, battery, supercapacitor, catalysts, and solar cell applications.

Dr. Paula Alexandrina de Aguiar Pereira Marques is a Principal Researcher in Nanotechnology Research Division. She worked as a researcher at CICECO. Dr. Marques received her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, University of Aveiro, 2003. She holds a patent for "Graffen Oxide Macroestrutures for The Removal of Heavy Metals in Contaminated Waters". Dr. Marques established collaborations with national and international researchers which include, THEME -UAE: Antonio Completo, Ricardo Sousa, Antonio Bastos, Victor Neto, CESAM - UA: Maria Eduarda Pereira, etc. She has been exploring the nanomaterial for several applications, which include: Synthesis of nanocomposites, Synthesis of functionalized nano-graphene oxide, Preparation of mechanical and electrical stimulus responsive 3D graphene/collagen scaffolds for tissue engineering applications etc.

Dr. Lavinia Balan is a CNRS Senior Researcher, France. She received her PhD from University Henry Poincaré, France, which devoted to the elaboration of an original material for the anode of Li-ion batteries. Dr. Balan holds four patents under her name. She is a Member of the Executive Committee of the International Union of Advanced Materials (IUAM) and Member of Steering Committee of World Academic Publishing Conference Series: Application of Materials and Chemical Engineering (AMCE). Dr. Balan's research interests include nanotechnology, nanomaterials : metal nanoparticles, metal/polymer nanocomposites, synthesis of nanocomposites, design and characterization of metal nanoparticles and nanocrystals (quantum dots) suited for advanced applications in the fields of optic, photonics, plasmonics or biology.
