Dr. Daniel James Guillaume is currently Director of Quality and Safety in Department of Neurosurgery at University of Minnesota Health. He is also working as Associate Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics at University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. Dr. Guillaume research is focused on improving diagnosis and therapy for pediatric brain tumors by use of advanced imaging, and efforts to improve delivery of anti-tumor agents by manipulation of the blood-brain barrier. His other ongoing research studies evaluate methods to improve treatment of hydrocephalus using image guidance, and miminally invasive approaches to the brain and skull base. Dr. Guillaume's research interests include advanced treatments of brain and spinal tumors, minimally invasive surgical approaches, complex hydrocephalus, and Chiari malformation. Hi research is focused on improving diagnosis and therapy for pediatric brain tumors by use of advanced imaging, and efforts to improve delivery of anti-tumor agents by manipulation of the blood-brain barrier. After starting his specialization in neurosurgery in France at the Center Hospitalier Universitaire in Rennes and then at the Hospices Civils in Lyon, he completed his training at the CHUV. Between 2014 and 2015, Dr. Messerer subsequently performed a subspecialization in the surgery of intramedullary tumors at the Hopital Bicetre (University Paris Sud) and in pediatric surgery at the Necker Hospital. Dr. Messerer is very invested in the clinical research, he realizes many works centered on the endoscopic surgery of the base of the skull. He is also a founding member of a research unit on the diameter of the optic nerve and its relationship with intracranial hypertension. He is also interested in the history of medicine and in collaboration with Professor Barras he prepares a thesis on the history of neurosurgery.
