Dr. Myoung-Gun Choung is currently a Professor at Kangwon National University in Korea and chief of the Department of Herbal Medicine Resources. Dr. Myoung-Gun Choung was born (1966) in South Korea. He obtained BS, MS and Ph.D degrees from the Yeungnam University in Korea. All degrees were in Agronomy with emphasis on plant breeding and chemical analysis. He worked a agricultural researcher of Rural Development Administration(RDA) in Korea from 1997 to 2003. He is a researcher who is making the utmost efforts at the forefront of research on growing, developing, supplying, and enhancing availability of new breeds of plants that are major food crops in Korea that are not produced enough inside the country and have to be imported from other countries such as rice, soybean, peas, kidney beans, and potatoes. Dr. Choung's research interests include plant breeding and metabolomic analysis of nutritional and functional compounds for plants.

Dr. Deng received her bachelor's degree in Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University in 1993, master's degree in Shenyang Agricultural University in 1996, and her Ph.D. degree in Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999. From1999 to 2003, Dr. Deng worked on desiccation tolerance of resurrection plants in Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research as a postdoctoral researcher. In 2003, she started her career in IBCAS as an associate professor and she became a professor since 2009. In 2006, she was elected to Novel Stars of Science and Technology supported by Beijing Metropolis. Since 2008, she became the leader of Plant Desiccation Tolerance Group.Drought stress severely affects plant growth and development. Resurrection plants have evolved a unique set of adaptive mechanisms to tolerate water loss of more than 90% and recover rapidly after rehydration. To reveal the bases of their adaptation, we have launched comprehensive “omics” studies on the resurrection plants Boea hygrometrica, aiming to identify the key components that play important roles for the protection and repair during dehydration and resurrection process. Special attention is paid to the genes that are involved in signal transduction, hormone regulation, stomata movement and osmo-regulation.
