Prior to his appointment at UALR, he was a senior research scientist and the head of a research team in data mining at Siemens Corporate Research and Technologies. Dr. Xu is adjunct professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Xu was an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Faculty Research Program Member in the National Center for Toxicological Research's (NCTR) Center for Bioinformatics in the Division of Systems Biology from 2010 to 2014. He is also a consultant for companies including Siemens, Acxiom, Dataminr and Neusoft. Dr. Xu's research focuses on novel algorithms for datamining and machine learning, parallel and distributed algorithms, information retrieval, and bioinformatics. He published over 70 papers in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Xu is a recipient of the prestigious ACM SIGKDD Test of Time Award for his pioneered work in density-based on clustering algorithm (DBSCAN), which has received over 6,673 citations based on Google Scholar and is also one of the most common clustering algorithms according to Wikipedia.

He is currently getting his Masters in Bioinformatics/Artificial Intelligence at Stanford, and he is the founder and medical director of the nascent Medical Intelligence and Innovation Institute (MI3) that is supported by the Sharon Disney Lund Foundation. The institute is dedicated to implement data science and artificial intelligence in medicine and is the first institute of its kind in a hospital. Dr. Chang attended Johns Hopkins University for his B.A. in molecular biology prior to entering Georgetown University School of Medicine for his M.D. He then completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center and his pediatric cardiology fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Chang has been the medical director of several pediatric cardiac intensive care programs (including Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Miami Children’s Hospital, and Texas Children’s Hospital). He is the founder of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society (PCICS) and the founder of the Asia-Pacific Pediatric Cardiac Society (APPCS). In 2013 Dr. Chang has started a pediatric innovation leadership group whose bi-annual symposium Pediatrics2040: Emerging Trends and Future Innovations became a catalyst for the international Society for Pediatric Innovation (iSPI).

Dr. Yiannis Papadopoulos is Professor of Computer Science and leader of the Dependable Systems Group in the University of Hull. He has studied Engineering and Computer Science in the Aristotelian University in Thessaloniki and the University of Cranfield and holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of York. Over the last 15 years Professor Papadopoulos has pioneered a body of work on model-based dependability assessment and evolutionary optimisation of complex engineering systems known as Hierarchically Performed Hazard Origin and Propagation Studies (HiP-HOPS). He has also co-authored EAST-ADL, an emerging architecture description language developed as standard by the automotive industry. These technologies have gained wide academic recognition and have been successfully transferred to the automotive, shipping and other industries, where they have been commercialised and successfully deployed in design and engineering processes. Prof. Papadopoulos is actively involved in two technical committees of the International Federation of Automatic Control IFAC on design and control of distributed dependable systems, and has co-founded in 2007 the IFAC Conference on Dependable Control of Discrete Systems (DCDS) which provides the key event on “dependability research” within IFAC. He has co-chaired the 4th edition of DCDS that took place at the University of York in September 2013. Prof. Papadopoulos is presently developing a new strand of research that intersects computer science, philosophy, medicine and art with potentially novel applications and impact on conceptual art, art therapy and educational games.
