Dr. Xiaowei Xu is a professor in the Department of Information Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). Prior to his appointment at UALR, he was a senior research scientist and the head of a research team in data mining at Siemens Corporate Research and Technologies. Dr. Xu is adjunct professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Xu was an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Faculty Research Program Member in the National Center for Toxicological Research's (NCTR) Center for Bioinformatics in the Division of Systems Biology from 2010 to 2014. He is also a consultant for companies including Siemens, Acxiom, Dataminr and Neusoft. Dr. Xu's research focuses on novel algorithms for datamining and machine learning, parallel and distributed algorithms, information retrieval, and bioinformatics. He published over 70 papers in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Xu is a recipient of the prestigious ACM SIGKDD Test of Time Award for his pioneered work in density-based on clustering algorithm (DBSCAN), which has received over 6,673 citations based on Google Scholar and is also one of the most common clustering algorithms according to Wikipedia.
