Dr. Boris M Ariel graduated from high school in 1955 and continued to study in the 1st Leningrad Medical Institute. Being student he began my own scientific researches. In 1961 he obtained the medical diploma and continued the postgraduate studies at the Central Roentgen-Radiological Institute (Leningrad). In 1965 he defended his doctoral thesis "Myocard lesions after X-rays irradiation in the circumstances of heart and circulation functional loading". 1964-1974 he worked as a junior research scientist at the Institute for Experimental Medicine (Leningrad) on some aspects of infection pathology and in 1974-1981 – as an assistant professor at the institute for pathologic anatomy at the Pediatric Medical Academy (Leningrad). In his research he used traditional microscopic methods and electron microscopic methods too.The result of his scientific work of these years was MD thesis "Infectious process as a system problem". This trait runs like a thread through all his writings at the Institute of Phthisiopulmonology were he working now in a position of Chief of the Laboratory Diagnostic Department, and Scientific Consultant. For more than 40 years he serve as a freelance employee in 'Biology' (the reference journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences), translating articles from English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese and doing abstracts. He is a member of the Russian Department of the International Pathology Academy. His research interests are: Infection pathology, Tuberculosis, Lung pathology, Theoretical pathology, History of medicine.

Dr. Alfio Ferlito is a graduated in medicine at the University of Bologna. After two years at the University of Trieste, he worked at the ENT Department of Padua University from 1970 to 1997. He has been awarded ad hominem fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and ad eundem fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Glasgow, Ireland and Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is a fellow or a member of other Colleges and scientific societies. He has been honored with several distinctions from professional ENT Societies including two Presidential Citations from the American Laryngological Association for his contributions made to the field of laryngology and the association. He has been appointed as the International Liaison for Corresponding Fellows of the American Laryngological Association. He collaborated as a member of the World Health Organizations Committee on Histological Typing of Tumours of the Upper Respiratory Tract and Ear. He is also a member of the Laryngeal Cancer Association?s Committee on the Classification of Laryngeal Cancer. He was consultant to Yale University. He has delivered prestigious lectures all over the world. Recently he gave the 2nd Morrison Lecture in San Francisco (2006) and the 19th Som Lecture in New York (2006).

Christian J. Woods is a Staff Physician at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Woods received his undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University and his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. He completed his medical residency, and fellowships in infectious diseases as well as pulmonary/critical care medicine at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Woods currently serves as Associate Program Director for both the internal medicine residency and the pulmonary/critical care medicine fellowship, as well as Associate MICU Director. He has been a member of the American Thoracic Society since 2008. In addition he is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. More recently, Dr. Woods’ research has focused on clinical outcomes with MRSA infection and the impact of MIC on outcome, the clinical impact of ESBL organisms in the intensive care unit, and the use of a novel fibrinolytic for empyemas and complicated parapneumonic effusions. He has an interest in pneumonia and other pulmonary infections. In addition, Dr. Woods serves as a reviewer for numerous medical journals.

Eloisa Gitto is Professor of Pediatrics at University of Messina, Italy. She is the Director of the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital of Messina, Italy. Dr. Eloisa Gitto received her medical degree at the University of Messina, Italy and her research trainings at the UT Health Science Center of San Antonio, Texas, and at the University of Chicago, USA. In addition to research, Dr Gitto teaches Pediatrics and Intensive Care Medicine to medical students and postgraduate pediatric fellows. Dr Gitto’s professional interests are in the area of oxidative stress, mainly in studying the effects of antioxidant melatonin in many neonatal diseases, in the area of neonatal and pediatric intensive care, with particular interest to ventilation strategies.

He has successfully completed his Administrative responsibilities as Chief of the Angiology Ambulatory and Chief of the Specialization Course in Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Setu K Patolia is a Director of interventional pulmonary services and assistant professor of internal medicine in division of pulmonary and critical care at St Louis University School of Medicine, Saint Louis, Missouri. He graduated from B.J. Medical College in Gujarat, India in 2004. He also received his Masters in Public Health with major in Biostatistics from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr Abdelbary Elhissi combines a profound expertise in higher education, industry, and research. He obtained his PhD (2001-2005) and a post-doctoral research fellowship (2005-2006) from The School of Pharmacy, University College London, UK. He worked in pharmaceutical industry at Lipoxen Technologies, London as Senior Scientist for development of anticancer nanomedicines (2006-2007). He then worked at University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) as lecturer and then Senior Lecturer in pharmaceutics (2007-2014), where he established one of the largest drug delivery groups in the UK, with main focus on pulmonary drug delivery. He was the founding leader of The Drug Delivery Group and the Deputy Head and a founding member of the UCLan’s Institute of Nanotechnology and Bioengineering (2011-2014). Dr Elhissi is a visiting fellow at London South Bank University, a visiting professor at Sichuan university in China and an external examiner in a number of other universities. He has research collaborations with prestigious universities in UK, USA, Egypt, China and Pakistan. Dr Elhissi authored more than 60 peer-reviewed research papers and book chapters, more than 70 conference abstracts, 3 books, and 1 filed patent. He generated/contributed to generating around £1,275,000 research income in addition to $700,000 NPRP 9th cycle. Dr Elhissi teaches in both undergraduate and graduate courses, including physical pharmacy, preformulation, biopharmaceutics, drug delivery, drug development, nanomedicine and radiopharmacy. He also gives advanced training to graduate students on presentation skills, and writing and reviewing research papers and grant proposals. Dr Elhissi is currently an Associate Professor at College of Pharmacy (Canadian accredited BSc Pharmacy), Qatar University (September 2014- Present).

Dr. Xiaoming Zhang completed his Ph.D in Ship Engineering and Acoustics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1990. He completed postdoctoral training at the Department of Acoustics, Harbin Engineering University, China, and Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, University of Southampton, England. He was promoted to full professor in 1995 at Huazhong University. In 2001, he joined one of the best ultrasound research laboratories at Mayo Clinic and has become Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering since 2004. Dr. Xiaoming Zhang research interests are in biomedical engineering, biomechanics, ultrasound, acoustics, elastography, imaging, instrumentation, clinical translational research, noninvasive techniques for assessing tissue disease. He has developed novel techniques using ultrasound, acoustics and optics to measure tissue elasticity noninvasively. These approaches have substantial potential for clinical use in assessing tissue diseases in a safe, noninvasive, quantitative, and cost-effective manner. He has set up strong multidisciplinary collaborations with physicians in a range of fields (Pulmonary Medicine, Cardiovascular disease, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Rheumatology, and Surgery).

Prof. N. Glenn Griesinger is an associate professor of statistics in the Department of Mathematics at Texas Southern University located in Houston, Texas. Prof. Griesinger's research area is nonparametric statistics. She has devised new nonparametric methodologies and has applied modern nonparametric techniques to applications such as pulmonology, computational biology, and educational disparities. Prof. Griesinger is a member of the American Statistical Association and has been appointed to the Committee on Minorities in Statistics. Prof. Griesinger is a graduate of Rice University's Department of Statistics. Her research interest includes nonparametric statistics, disparities and bioinformatics.

Dr. Guang Qian Xiao is a Associate Professor of Department of Pathology at University of Rochester Medical Center. He worked as Assistant Professor of Department of Pathology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Attending Pathologist of Department of Pathology at Staten Island University Hospital. Dr. Xiao received his Ph.D in Molecular and Cellular Biology at State University of New York-Downstate Health Science Center, M.S in Immunology at College of Medicine, Beijing University, M.D in Clinical Medicine at College of Medicine, Nanchang University. His research intrest are Lung neoplastic and nonneoplastic diseases; Immunologic disease; Tumor biomarker; Tumor diagnosis; Tumor pathogenesis; Mechanism of tumor aggression.

Dr. Conte Enrico in 1993 started his Ph.D. courses of Biochemical and Bio-molecular Sciences, and pertinent research activity at the Molecular Biology Laboratory at the Institute of General Pathology, Catania University, Italy. Topics of his researches were the mechanisms of NFkB activation and the role of NFKBin the transcriptional regulation of a variety of genes including the antioncogene IRF-1, and cytokines such as IL-8 and TNF in monocytes/macrophages. In 1994 he spent a semester at the Institute of Molecular Biology, University of Oregon, and Eugene, USA, supported by a grant from the Italian National Researh Council (CNR). In the Lab directed by D.H. Hawley, he was studying the interaction between NFKBand basal transcription machinery. In 1996 he obtained his Ph.D. degree in Rome 'La Sapienza' University, Italy. From 1996 to 2008 he worked at the Department of Biomedical Sciences (formerly Institute of General Pathology), first granted by the Buzzati-Traverso Foundation, afterward as fellow researcher, and eventually as volunteer. He participated in several in vitro and ex vivo studies in the field of immunology and oncology. Main topics of his researches were apoptotis-related gene expression in myeloid leukemia cells and drug-induced gene expression pathways. In 1997 he spent a semester in Frankfurt, Germany, as fellow researcher at the University Clinic (Uniklinikum) of the W. Goethe University; he was investigating the inhibition of NFKB activation by natural compounds. In 1997-1999 he was also collaborating with a interdisciplinary group directed by Prof. G. Marletta to study molecular mechanisms of cell adhesion to ion-beam irradiated polymeric surfaces.
