Professor Marcos M S Paula is a guest professor at Postgraduate Program in Materials Science and Engineering at Federal Amazonas University. Prof. Marcos received his bachelor degree in Chemistry from Federal University of Santa Catarina in 1992. He concluded his master degree in Inorganic Chemistry (1994) and doctor of philosophy degree in Materials Science and Engineering in 1999 in the same University. He did his post doctoral training at the Applied Chemistry Research Center (CIQA) – Mexico in 2013. He is a Researcher Productivity Level 2in the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development – CNPq. Prof. Marcos research interests are in synthesis, characterization and biomedical applications of metallic nanoparticles, mainly gold and silver nanoparticles. His research in the biochemistry field includes evaluating the use of therapeutic pulsed ultrasound and/or iontophoresis and gold nanoparticles associated with anti-inflammatory drugs on oxidative stress parameters. His research also comprises the rule of acute and chronic administration of metallic nanoparticles on deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage as well as the effects of nanopartiles in the mitochondrial respiratory chain. His studies are conducted in vitro and in vivo, using animal model.
