Earl A Zimmerman, MD is professor of neurology at the Albany Medical College and Director of the Alzheimer’s Center at Albany Medical Center which he founded in 2002. He received his undergraduate degree from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and his MD from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his clinical and research training at Columbia University where he became professor of neurology and well known for his research in neuroendocrinology. In 1985 he became professor and chairman of neurology at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland and founded the federally funded Oregon Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center in 1985. Dr. Zimmermann is board certified in internal medicine and neurology and specializes in behavioral neurology and the diagnosis and treatment of dementia. His current research is focused on new diagnostic methods for early detection and measures for effectiveness of new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders of aging. As the Director of an Alzheimer’s disease Center of Excellence for the Capital Region of New York, his major focus is the education of physicians in the diagnosis and care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
