Abstract: Patients undergoing head and neck oncological surgery are at great risk of developing complications, especially postoperative wound infection. The incidence of wound infections has been reported to be as high as 87%. Wound infection can result in wound breakdown and the formation of mucocutaneous fistulae, leading to increased morbidity, prolonged hospitalization and event death.
