Abstract: Mussel foot adhesive proteins are one of nature's remarkable triumphs; they guarantee a secure and robust bond between the mollusc's byssal threads and the surface to which they settle ensuring that they are securely fastened. We now know that some of these adhesive proteins are especially rich in lysine and 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine (DOPA) residues.
