Dr. Martin A Katzman is a Clinic Director at the S.T.A.R.T. Clinic (Stress, Trauma, Anxiety, Rehabilitation and Treatment) for Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Canada. He is also a faculty member at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (Laurentian University and Lakehead University) and Adjunct Professor at Adler Graduate Professional School. Dr. Katzman was trained at the University of Toronto, first undertaking his B.Sc. in Psychology and Neuroscience, and subsequently his medical training and residency and post- doctoral fellowship. Dr. Katzman’s clinical work deals chiefly with the diagnosis and treatment of adults suffering with mood and anxiety disorders, as well as those suffering with Attention Deficit Disorders, Executive Dysfunction and chronic pain, providing expert diagnostic assessment, and pharmacological treatment as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in both group and individual formats, psychodynamic treatment and Mindfulness Based treatments. As an educator, Dr. Katzman has developed numerous training programs for both students and clinicians in a variety of areas including: Primary care medicine, Psychiatry, Psychology, Social work, Occupational therapy, Nursing, Complementary and alternative medicine as well as for a variety of Support Workers. His research primarily involves examining the psychological manifestations associated with the prefrontal cortex and related associated tracts and organ systems in mood, anxiety and traumatic disorders. The focus of this research has been directed at Hypoprefrontality, Executive Dysfunction, Intolerance of Uncertainty and Low Hedonic Tone as well as the drivers of Motivation and Energy in relation to the development of a variety of comorbidities and treatment resistance. Dr. Katzman is also a founding member of the Board of Directors as well as the founding and current Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Anxiety Disorders Association of Canada/Association Canadienne des Troubles Anxieux (ADAC/ACTA).
