Prof. Theo Odijk is a Guest Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Lorentz Institute at Leiden Uiversity, Netherlands. He received his Ph.D in Physical Chemistry at Leiden University in 1983. He was a Professor of Rheology and Materials Science at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and later became Professor of Complex Fluids at the Kluyver Institute for Biotechnology at the same university. At the same time he was Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physical Chemistry at Leiden University. He is a recipient of the Gold Medal of the Royal Dutch Society of Chemistry (1986) and has been a member of the Royal Dutch Academy of the Sciences since 2008. His research interests are in the statistical physics of complex fluids: DNA in vitro and in vivo, proteins, fluid dynamics including turbulence, rheology, liquid crystals, polymers, bacteria and viruses.
