Dr. Claudiu T Lungu is Associate Professor in Department of Environmental Health Sciences and Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is also Director of the NIOSH funded Deep South Center for Occupational Health and Safety. He has received his PhD from University of South Carolina, Columbia, in 1994. He was awarded a research fellowship from the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Dean's Award for Excellence in Mentorship. Dr. Lungu's current research effort is directed towards evaluating environmental and occupational exposures to gasses and vapors, the use of innovative 3D technology for designing respirator face pieces, the use of carbon nanotubes for air sampling involving photo-thermal desorption, the development of novel natural fiber-based composite adsorbent materials for air pollution control and environmental remediation and fabrication and characterization of composite porous particles for water treatment.
