Dr. Mei Xu is an Associate Professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She received her M.D. degree from Peking University Health Science Center, China (1988) and Ph.D degree in Neuroscience from The National University of Singapore, Singapore (2001). She joined the faculty of Department of Bio-Medical Sciences at PCOM in 2010, where she teaches human anatomy, histology and neuroanatomy. Her research interest is to understand the molecular mechanism underlying axon regeneration and to improve functional recovery ultimately following nervous system injuries. Currently her lab focuses on the role of localized mRNAs and their binding proteins in axon regeneration. This research utilizes both in vitro and in vivo models and multi-disciplinary approaches.
