Dr. Panagiotis Alexopoulos was born in Patras, Greece. After attending for one academic year lectures at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Patras and he studied medicine at the same university. Panagiotis Alexopoulos has worked as psychiatric resident at the German university hospitals of Rostock and Erlangen, as well as at the hospital of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He obtained his PhD and completed his «Habilitation» (German postdoctoral degree program) at the TUM. In February 2013 he was appointed director of the neurobiological laboratory of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of TUM, at which he has also worked as consultant psychiatrist. Since April 2015 he teaches, continues his research activity and practices medicine as psychiatrist and psychotherapist at the University Hospital of Patras, whilst he remains an active member of the teaching and research team of the TUM Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. In addition, he attends a distance- learning MA course in Philosophy and Mental Health at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston. His research interests are mainly focused on Alzheimer's disease, old-age psychiatry and philosophy of mental health.
