Abstract: The importance of abdominal muscles to achieve and maintain adequate mobility and stability of the trunk has long been underestimated. We therefore examined different abdominal muscles training modalities (classical sit-ups vs. isometric training) with regard to their effects on trunk muscle’s strength performance.

Abstract: We present a novel case of an 18-year-old Division 1 college gymnast with recalcitrant lateral elbow pain. His symptoms were refractory to conservative care including NSAIDS, bracing and formal rehabilitation. This athlete had a percutaneous tenotomy performed. After a specific rehabilitation protocol, he was able to return to full Division 1 athletics two months after the procedure.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the kinetics of serum IGF-I and IGF binding protein (IGFBP)-3 on volleyball athletes during a training season and their relation to the performance in physical tests. This has led to increasing heterogeneity in the physical condition and previous experience of these participants. A survey was performed to establish rates and types of injuries/illness suffered and any protective factors that may exist.

Abstract: Our purpose is a descriptive epidemiology study of the most common injuries in high performance volleyball practice. All players were evaluated by our multidisciplinary staff of the Medical Department of Brazilian Men's National Team, at Volleyball Development Center, at Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Important injuries, which lead to interruption of training or competitions, were included.
