Authors: Roberta Pujia, MD, Filippo Dell'Apa, MD, Mimma Caloiero, MD, Domenico Sinopoli, NB, Stefania Zampogna, MD4, Rosa Anfosso, MD and Antonella Centonze, MD

Abstract: Type 1 diabetes mellitus is the most frequent endocrinopathy of childhood. Epidemiological data have indicated that its incidence is constantly increasing, especially in the age group of fewer than 5-years. Social and health policies must take account of these new problems. The school, as an educational agency, is a central part of the child's life, being the place where he or she spends most of the day in a continuous interaction with classmates and teachers.

Perinatal Outcomes in a Cohort of Offspring Exposed to Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT) in Utero

Authors: Christy Pylypjuk, BSc, MD, MSc, FRCSC and Romina Levy, BSc, MD

Abstract: This was a historical, matched-cohort study at a tertiary obstetrical hospital (2010-2015). Controls were matched to cases of newborns exposed to MMT in utero in a 2:1 fashion according to maternal age, neighborhood, and year of delivery. Maternal and newborn hospital charts were reviewed in order to collect relevant demographic information as well as the perinatal outcomes of interest. Descriptive statistics and comparative analyses were performed to determine differences in outcomes between groups.
