Abstract: There is emerging evidence that type 2 diabetes mellitus could predispose to cognitive impairment. Even though the disease effect on higher intellectual abilities takes time to evolve, an increasing body of literature proposes the existence of modest impaired cognition, starting in late midlife age. The aim of the present article is to review the existing literature regarding cognitive domains and corresponding assessment tools in the setting of type 2 diabetes. A literature search of databases was performed, using as keywords “type 2 diabetes”, “cognitive impairment”, and “screening tools”.

Abstract: The intelligence quotient (IQ) reflects the neurological networks of the brain, and is a useful proxy for human mental ability. Empirical evidence shows that IQ is an indicator of psychological resilience, definable as a dynamic process of positive adaptation to significant adversity. However, IQ and psychological resilience are multidimensional variables; and mediators in this association have to be considered. Children from low socioeconomic status (SES) families are at relatively high risk of encountering adversity and have fewer resources to help them overcome crises.

Abstract: The fifth-generation mobile network is the next paradigm that is expected to bring solutions to the problem of the 4G technology. Also, the expectation is to have the fastest, most reliable network access to support huge data traffic and massively connected nodes with low latency and high throughput with the deployment of the 5G.

Abstract: Pain researchers have relied on the inadequate evidence of the presence of opioid receptors in organisms as evidence of conscious pain through an argument by analogy. The argument by analogy proceeds in two ways. The analogy by function looks at organisms with similar functioning pain systems to humans and supposes that similar functionality indicates similar mental states, like conscious pain. This fails with opioid receptors because opioid receptors are part of the pain

Abstract: It is unclear how the relationships between age and metacognitive beliefs are affected by beliefs about memory. To examine this question, we measured beliefs about memory (reliability of memory and retrospective changes in memory), metacognitive beliefs (using the Metacognitions Questionnaire-30 [MCQ-30]) and Thought-Action Fusion (TAF) in a

Abstract: Dementia is a global epidemic and is the leading cause of disability among older people. A priority in dementia research is engagement of people with dementia. Stigma affects their participation in research but there are approaches to ameliorate the effect of stigma to enable engagement of people with dementia. People with dementia should also be engaged in health research, where instead of being research participants, they act as collaborators in planning, executing

Abstract: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia, particularly Alzheimer´s disease (AD), encompass a spectrum of cognitive disfunction with severe impact and prevalence in the elderly. To study prognostic factors that can influence the progression of MCI to dementia, we examined the medical records from the dementia outpatient clinic of a tertiary hospital during a 6-year period, and compared the patients initially diagnosed with dementia or MCI, and patients that

Abstract: The capacity for free will follows from the evolution of a conscious brain with additional power of rational thoughts and an awareness of self. Our free will is based on cognitive deliberation, which is one of several strategies designed to guide behaviour. Other strategies can be engaged simultaneously, our free will is therefore restricted by the relative
