Synthesis and Preliminary Assays of a Novel Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Dedicated to the Extraction of Carbamazepine from River Water

Authors: Berengere Claude, Syntia Fayad, Christelle Dufresne, Claudine Chatellier, Francois Lestremau, Patrick Rollin, Philippe Morin and Reine Nehme

Abstract: Monitoring of trace organic contaminants in aquatic media has become a major concern today. The presence of Carbamazepine (CBZ), anticonvulsant and analgesic used in the treatment of pain associated with trigeminal neuralgia, has been reported in effluents from sewage treatment plants due to its low biodegradability.

Changes at the Surface Electrostatic Activity is Involved in Infectivity and Elimination of Accumulated Prion Proteins

Authors: Aly Moussa

Abstract: The results obtained during the study of mutations on the gene coding for the human prion protein showed that the only major consequence of mutations is the perturbation of the protein surface electrostatic potential which subsequently is responsible for the convergence of PrPc to PrPsc.
