Case Report Pages 86-89
Abstract: We report the case of a young patient with left breast cancer with stage IIB (T2N1M0), negative hormone receptors, HER2-positive and no particular medical history. The patient was particularly sensitive to the neurological and allergic- type toxicity of the adjuvant treatment she received and it required the stopping and successive change of the various prescribed protocols. Trastuzumab was continued as monotherapy for one year; asymptomatic cardiotoxicity was reported following the fall in LVEF (a 17.9% drop from baseline with a value below 50%).

Abstract: Vitamin D (VD) is important for the development and maintenance of bone tissue. This study used clinical and radiographic evaluations to analyze whether insufficient VD levels affect the peri-implant health of patients with implant-supported prostheses. Data were collected for 33 patients with implant-supported prostheses: Probing depth (PD); width of keratinized mucosa (wKM); bleeding (mBI); peri-implant plaque index (mPI); distance from implant to bone crest and VD level. Patients with levels under 30 ng/ml at baseline received 50000 IU of VD per week for 8 weeks (post-treatment, PT),

Abstract: Rift Valley Fever (RVF) is a serious life-threatening disease with severe clinical manifestations and health consequences for humans and a wide range of domestic animals. In September 2000, a RVF outbreak was reported in Jazan region south-west Saudi Arabia with 886 human cases including 124 deaths. This review provides: 1) An overview of RVF control program in Saudi Arabia and current control measures; 2) A feasibility assessment of some intervention measures that have been launched since the early recognition of RVF.

Abstract: A 79-year-old male with a history of renal cell carcinoma was referred for CT guided core biopsy of a right sided 3 cm adrenal lesion. A number of vulnerable anatomical structures were adjacent to the lesion, so an innovative positioning technique was used to maximize access to the lesion and minimize risk to the adjacent structures. The head down position used in this case resulted in the liver and portal vein moving superiorly, significantly reducing the likelihood of injury.

Abstract: The delayed recognition of bile duct injury (BDI) and the challenges in its diagnosis lead to clinical variability. The management of BDI is complicated and ranges from ERCP to liver transplantation. But infections related to BDI and sepsis control, prior to the bile flow reestablishment, are the mainstay of the treatment. In this study, we aimed to report the clinical outcomes of iatrogenic BDI and intensive care unit (ICU) process in a tertiary state hospital.

Abstract: Human polynucleotide phosphorylase (hPNPase), an exoribonuclease that is primarily localized in mitochondria, plays an important role in reducing oxidized RNA and protecting cells under oxidative stress conditions. hPNPase contains two catalytic domains (RPH1 and RPH2) and two RNA binding domains (KH and S1), and an N-terminal mitochondrial translocation signal (MTS).

Abstract: This study calculated the effects on serum sodium (Na) levels, after treatment with either of 2 drugs: The erythropoietin (Epo) and the antioxidant lazaroid (L) drug U-74389G. The calculation was based on the results of 2 preliminary studies, each one of which estimated the certain influence, after the respective drug usage in an induced ischemia reperfusion (IR) animal experiment.

Abstract: Initial analysis of the twin paradox from a biophysical standpoint appears to reveal a new additional consideration that has been overlooked for over a century. That the traveling twin may come back even younger than has previously been considered due to his variable daily metabolic cycle or variable biological clock, with special emphasis on his period of sleep involving his normally slowed biological clock, becoming minutely further slowed during each such cycle, due to velocity continuing to interact with this reduced base rate and in accordance with the Lorentz factor.

Abstract: Diabetes mellitus has become more important health problem across the world. Among them, it is not simply a medical problem with excess calories and obesity, but various differences and issues are found in several situation. Even if the value of HbA1c is same, the guidance for standard regular diet is not the same between for the younger group and the elderly group.

Abstract: Research on glioblastoma has demonstrated a significant increase in IGF-I gene expression in this brain tumor. After suppression of IGF-I expression using anti-gene IGF-I technologies, glioma cells become immunogenic, expressing MHC-I. While injected in vivo, they induce an immune response mediated by T-CD8 lymphocytes. These cells, applied as autologous anti-cancer vaccines have increased the median survival of glioblastoma patients up to 18 months, but often up to two-three years.
