Abstract: The vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) configuration has many advantages for an offshore wind turbine installation. The VAWT is omnidirectional and its rotating mechanical components can be placed close to sea level. In this paper, the three dimensional (3D) computational fluid dynamics analysis of a large-scale 5 MW VAWT is conducted.

Abstract: A series of experiments was carried out to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of a cranked-delta wing model. It has been noted by various researches that in the vicinity of the take-off angles of attack, an instability in the longitudinal stability of aircraft equipped with cranked delta wings occurs where its origin is not well understood yet. To further study this phenomenon

Abstract: This study aimed to develop a propulsion design concept for smart drones (UAVs – Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) mimicking bacterial flagellar motor that can be found in many bacterial cells. A preliminary propulsion design concept was developed based on using the conventional turbojet without the turbine to run the compressor following the flagellar motor organization.

Abstract: The methods of minimization or maximization of lift, drag and pitching moment are extended to multiple coupled control surfaces with polynomial dependence of any degree on the control surface deflections. This serves as an introduction to the problem of minimization of cruise drag with pitch trim and unchanged lift, i.e. same airspeed and altitude, that is considered for a flying-wing configuration

Abstract: A blended-wing-body is an example of an aircraft configuration with multiple control surfaces. The most effective use of these control surfaces, e.g. to minimize cruise drag due to pitch trim, or to maximize pitching moment at low speed in an engine-out condition, leads to optimization problems. This kind of control optimization problems can be addressed by the method of Lagrange multipliers;
